Lebanese PM Fuad Siniora Official Website

Sat, 2010-06-12 21:07

PM Fuad Siniora Official Website is built to be a portal to provide information for the lebanese community worldwide and to allow communication with the public.

Why Drupal?

Drupal is a proven content management framework that provides a wide toolkit while providing the ability to customize every aspect of it. While its arabic support is below Joomla for example and other content management frameworks, its solid multilingual capabilities allow to fill in the gaps.

Modules

The website uses a set of proven track modules such as: CCK, Views, Imagecache, Lightbox
Other custom modules has been developed to provide site specific features and allows intuitive interaction with the site visitors

Performance

It is critical that the website stays online 100 per cent of the time, so careful planning and fine-tuning of the server settings has been made to make sure that the web server never crashes to an influx of visitors. Moreover a PHP opcode has been used to speed up performance and the cache module to use it as a preferred alternative to slow database caching.

Goals

In the recent days, the website has succeeded to achieve its goals by allowing a great deal of visitors to be able to send their messages.

Drupal versus beautiful websites?

Thu, 2010-06-10 15:12

Someone once told me that Drupal (as well as other standard or open source platforms) always turns websites into standard looking discounted off the shelf looking sites with poor user journeys. In short: ugly and annoying websites. Well, I decided to give it a go when setting up my first online venture, a webstore selling Danish designed fashion aimed at plus size women in the UK. Launching last week I think we have done a fairly good job so far. We still have some bugs to fix and loads of improvements to make, but feel free to get inspiration on kurvs.co.uk.

All the best

Musician site with facebook/twitter/Tumblr integration + ecommerce file downloads and panels design.

Wed, 2010-06-09 21:54

Hi all,

A site to showcase a singer songwriter with lots of social media interaction. Design done in photoshop, then cut into panels + mini panels.

http://www.tomfiggins.com

Other features - ecommerce file purchase + a Flash music preview. Auto import from Twitter, blogs from Tumblr and friends from Facebook. Originally using Simplenews, but now using Facebook for messaging the masses....also, only facebook fans have access to the free track...

Quite a few modules used, but tried to keep it fairly lean as it's not a huge site. Main challange was to get the design to work and to keep it easy to masnage for the team behind

Well this site is beginning to come to a close now - I still have some IE issues to clear up so best viewed with Firefox/Safari etc.

Let me know what you think!

cheers, joe

TheSimplest.net - The Simplest Way To Do Just About Everything On Your PC, and now the iPhone!

Mon, 2010-06-07 05:44

http://www.thesimplest.net

Built entirely with Drupal, and contributed modules.

My favourite contributed modules are:
- Views (Cant' live without)
- Imagefield and imagecache to make something like http://www.thesimplest.net/pictures or http://www.thesimplest.net/iphone and also thumbnail preview of related articles (together with 'similar by terms' module) at the bottom of each article.
- CKEditor to ease article creation together with IMCE for adding images easily.
- Pathauto and Global Redirect to create SEO friendly URLs.
- Mollom to prevent auto spam.

Just wanted to say that Drupal is the best thing I ever found on the net and allows me to create a website even without a strong knowledge in programming. Various contributed modules made it very flexible and also prevent people from reinventing the wheel again and again. If I were to create my website from scratch without Drupal, I think I need at least a few years to create what TheSimplest.net it is today, which is created in months!

Thanks Drupal Community!
